About this painting: I enjoy watching the graceful flight of Black Skimmers as they work the shores of Galveston Island. The “Black Skimmer Dash” painting shows a flock in a mad dash to a new feeding area. This is another of my experimental series of natural composition found in bird flight patterns. Throughout the painting, black and white wing patterns are punctuated by vivid red bills, giving points of reference to the pattern of motion. The background is made from thousand of small specks of color achieved by speckling red, blue, white and purple paint with a bristle brush. Combined with the Skimmers, the background gives the painting a startling dimensional effect. This is not your normal bird art.
