Original oil painting - 24" x 30" A flock of Red-Winged Blackbirds in flight pattern against a speckled background. The background was created by splattering paint with bristle brush. The combination of red, purple, blue and white splattered paint gives a unique depth to the sky as the graceful pattern of the flock create sense of motion. Quite a striking effect I've been experimenting with. I call the style Specklism. The light shadow behind the birds (I call the effect "Light Capture") creates a 3 dimensional effect. Add that along with the speckled background and the whole painting is alive with depth and motion. A little note of humor; as I was outside photographing the painting, bees kept buzzing to the thick red and yellow paint on the wings.
